Buying an Office Depot printer or Amazon printer online could cost you or your organization thousands of dollars of wasted expenditures over a printer's life. Many organizations or end-users simply purchase an office printer based on its features such as speed, color quality, or purchase price. This is a BIG mistake.
Before acquiring your next office printer, you must consider not only the purchase price, but also the cost to operate the printer over the printer's life cycle. Brands such as HP and Brother thrive in our global economy by selling inexpensive printers, but incredibly expensive toner cartridges with high operating costs. Some printer models cost as much as $.20 cents per page for color and $.025 cents per monochrome page.
Let the "Buyer Beware" is certainly applicable in today's modern economy. Can you imagine paying $299.00 for a yellow toner cartridge? Furthermore, many printers are sold with starter cartridges, or minimal amounts of toner so you have to replenish the toner cartridges after minimal use. An entire set (C, M, Y, K) of 4 toner cartridges could cost well over $600.
The other factor is service and support. Once the office printer warranty expires, Office Depot is not going to repair your office printer. Furthermore, Amazon is certainly not going to provide any service or support. Toner-only printers do not require drum replacement when the toner is empty. Cartridge based printers require the toner and drum to be replaced when the toner is empty.
