Selecting an office suite is essential for your organization, especially with Google’s G Suite giving a tough competition to Office 365. It’s another feature-filled option after MS Office Suite that can give your company a powerful upgrade. Even though Microsoft Office was the reigning king in the business world for eons, the throne is now shared with Google.

Although other contestants came along the way—WordPerfect Office and Lotus SmartSuite—none could stand a chance. It has come down to these two—G Suite and Office 365.

The release date doesn’t guarantee that G Suite will unconditionally be a better choice for every business. It may be newer, but it may or may not suit every business model. As such, to make an informed decision, you need to evaluate each suite’s pros and cons.

Let’s dive right in.

Which is the Better Productivity Suite

Both suites have a lot in common on paper: both require a membership subscription and charge their fee every month. Office 365 charges $5 per month for every user, whereas Google Suite charges $6. This eradicates the first factor that comes to mind while choosing between both, i.e., cost.

Moving on to offline and online use, G Suite offers both, which is a major plus. It expands productivity hours even during low or no connectivity. That increases the portability of the system and makes it accessible from remote locations in real-time.

In contrast, Office 365 restricts use to desktops. This mandates that you have power, hardware, and an internet connection. Even though this software is installed in systems, it offers some web-based applications.

Compatibility with Hardware and Software

This pro goes under both options because G Suite and Office 365 are compatible with many devices. Whether it be Windows, macOS, iOS, or Android, both suites work well with all. The web-based applications work across any browser of your choice and on any operating system. This is a major convenience for businesses who have grown used to their operational structure and don’t need unnecessary disruptions.

Core Applications

A few fundamental business requirements that are the same across the board include email, calendar, spreadsheets, word processing, presentation, and contacts. Both G Suite and Office 365 offer these core applications and more, including cloud computing.

However, the presentation of each application is unique in each suite. The management tools and applications run differently in each suite, which can drastically alter the user experience. For instance, if you prefer Google Docs over Word for better collaboration, you’d want to go with G Suite. However, if you’re more concerned with a broader range of word features and formatting options, you need Office 365. It boils down to company-wide preferences and applications that you’re comfortable using.
